On November 13, 2007, thirty-nine women were arrested while taking part in peaceful protest against the Iraq war at the Port of Olympia, WA. While being detained at the Olympia City Jail, police and jail correction officers violated the civil rights of women by forcing them to remove their clothing to sheer underwear layers and remain exposed to police, jailers, staff and inmates for a time no less that three hours. The Olympia police officer who took the lead, stated feeling angry about the anti-war protests that night and volunteered to process those arrested.
A civil claim (Love vs City of Olympia) was filed by three of the women whose rights were violated. Cristen Love, Patricia Imani and Stephanie Snyder are the plaintiffs. Their case is scheduled for jury trial April 25th – 28th at the Seattle Federal Courthouse before Judge Ricardo Martinez.
