Help Make October 11 a National Day of Antiwar Action!

The Seattle Antiwar Action Coalition (SAWAC) is a newly formed, diverse and democratic coalition looking to turn the massive antiwar sentiment in Seattle and the Northwest into a vibrant movement with the power to end the war. We are planning a march and rally in Seattle on October 11, and strongly encourage antiwar activists throughout the Northwest to join us in Seattle or organize antiwar activities in other communities for that date.

Why October 11? It was on October 11, 2002 that Congress approved the “Iraq War Resolution” granting the Bush administration authorization to invade Iraq. October 11 also falls four days after the seventh anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, and one day before Indigenous People’s Day, the 516th anniversary of Columbus’ invasion of the Americas. Let’s take a stand against war and occupation anywhere!

March, 2008, ushered in the sixth year of war and occupation “without end” on Iraq. October 7, 2008 will mark seven years of occupation of Afghanistan. For the Iraqi and Afghan people these have been years of terror, death, and destruction. Hundreds of thousands are dead and millions displaced. Entire populations live in a nightmare state, where daily necessities and basic human rights are impossible dreams.

In an act of arrogance and impunity, a Democrat-led Congress has approved another $162 billion in funding for the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan. Stepped up threats against Iran and the increased likelihood of a U.S. troop “surge” into Afghanistan point to an imperative for action from the peace and justice movement.

In light of these developments, grassroots forces from around the country came to Cleveland at the end of June for the National Assembly to End the Iraq War and Occupation. 95% voted in favor of supporting pre-election protests on October 11, 2008. Demonstrations are now being planned for many cities, including Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and Seattle and the list is growing.

The weeks ahead promise to be filled with debate as the election campaigns gear up. Millions of people across the country will be following and engaging in political issues and discussion. October 11 gives us the opportunity to inject the antiwar agenda into the intensifying debate, to say no to the devastation of war abroad and its crippling economic effects at home.

Sponsored by the Seattle Anti-War Action Coalition.

One must never forget that money and capitalism have been at the core of the USA and its many evil deeds, even before its official conception. The great evils perpetrated to build a world empire founded on greed, deception, and massive exploitation are now coming full circle, and with a vengeance. This is the long-awaited opportunity to finally "kill the beast" and kick all the bums out, forever.

This is not anti war

Do you know how to get semen stains out of an American flag? I tried blotting it with pages of the bible, but that didn't work...Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you want a protest to matter, you either need 10,000 moderate liberals, or 100 militant anti-authoritarians.....

If you don't want us in Iraq

If you don't want us in Iraq, then vote 3rd party, and not Obama or McCain.

insiders will not rock the boat. We need outsiders like McKenna or Paul or Barr. I'm still for Paul but perhaps Barr. Why not voting green? Because the candidate is for a central government "solution" and that is not a grounds up reconfiguration.

That we are against this war is not a policy stand, merely a feeling on this invasion. That we are against foreign entanglements is a policy stand. It encompases this and other invasions as well as behind the scenes "diplomacy" that does not stand up to transparency and have a solid reason behind it, one based on american safety, not just economic preferences etc.

And to it takes 100 radicals or 100.000radical moderates.....It might soon be hard to find moderates who are not "radicalized" and remember that radicalism does not belong to the leftists. Most folk are sick and tired of extremists on both sides. Most people want reason and moderation and a country that works for them. Deprive those reasons for the continuance of the current order and you will get disorder hoping to reorder it ground up

Yours till the revolution...

Rally and March to end the war in Afghanistan
Sunday, October 19, 2008
2:00pm–4:00pm
Georgia & Howe St.

Stephen Harper has announced that he wants to withdraw Canadian troops from Afghanistan by 2011. Don’t trust him. Harper has already extended the mission twice, with the help of Stéphane Dion. And now that a federal election is underway, Canadians know what Harper really thinks about “fixed dates”.

Even if we believed Harper, we can’t afford another three years of war. Nearly 100 Canadian troops have been killed in Afghanistan. Another three years would more than double the current death toll, since Canadian troops suffer one of the highest casualty rates of all NATO forces.

Three more years of war will also mean more civilian deaths. NATO air strikes have tripled between 2006 and2007. Over 6,500 civilians died in 2007, the highest death toll since 2001. This year is on track to be even worse.

A recent Environics poll shows that 56 per cent of Canadians oppose the mission, the highest opposition since the war began. Even more—58 percent—opposed Harper and Dion’s decision to extend the mission to 2011.

The federal election is our chance to tell Stephen Harper and all the political parties that we want the war to end. And we want it to end now, not in three years.

But no matter who forms the new government, the war will continue, and so must we. Join us to tell the federal government that it’s time to end the war, and to bring the troops home now.

On October 14, vote for candidates who pledge to end the war now!
On October 19, march to end the war!
