Photos Of Vandalized Tacoma Recruitment Center

author: Independent Journalists
Aug 02, 2008 18:31

Photos taken on 8/2/08

After hearing reports that the attack on the recruiting center did not in fact take place, a few independent journalists went out to the the Tacoma Mall Army Recruiting Center and took the below pictures.

Given that the mainstream media will never document or report on instances of popular struggle and resistance, it is up to independent journalists (ie: normal people with cameras and the ability to write) to document and record them.

The next time you read of such an act, do what we have done and report on it. It takes no effort.

Sad

How pathetic.

Some juvenile delinquent throws two or three rocks and cracks some windows on an Army Recruiting station and some people equate them with John Adams.

Activity and progress are not the same thing.

Great Job!

Great job on making anti-war people look like violent immature idiots.

not enough

Not enough damage in my opinion, for imperialist aggressor pigs. U.S. military has no right to exist. Abolish it soon.

"imperialist aggressor pigs"

As opposed to communist aggressor pigs like you, I guess.

"U.S. military has no right to exist."

Perhaps you would like to use your U.S. Military-Protected Right to Free Speech by moving to communist China and blogging there better... oh wait, they arrest bloggers like you and often execute them, saying they had "no right to exist".

How old are you? 19???

Well, he has a point
Posted by: redemma at Aug 03, 2008 23:04

Well, he has a point...windows that are barely cracked are barely news. The media doesn't report it whenever someone tags the side of a building, so why would they jump all over this thrilling story?

I wish anarchists would quit using sub-Maoist language like "popular resistance" but it's even more painful when the resistance in question is not only not popular, but only visible if you look really closely.

How does vandalizing government property solve anything? I think the people that cracked the window just contradicted themselves. The idea is to get the message across that WAR (violence) is not a solution to problems; apparently some knuckleheads just committed a crime by vandalizing the recruit center. I think there is nothing to justified this crime; not even if it was to divert the Tacoma police's attention. This action committed was plain STUPID.

Breaking windows isn't violence. I'm against *all* militaries, Chinese, U$, etc. And the U.$. military doesn't protect free speech. Free speech protects free speech.

To Military:

I don't know how you think, but definitely something is wrong with your head; breaking a window purposely is definitely a form of violence. Again, there is never a reason for committing vandalism. You are able to write in this blog simply because you are in a FREE COUNTRY. In conclusion, we have a FREE COUNTRY because of our Military that protects our country and stands for what we believe in.

When did indymedia turn into a masturbatory posting space for pro-military idiots.

Hey, spineless reactionary asshats...!

We could just as easily throw rocks at YOU. You are a 'soft' target as compared to what we decided to do.

You need pray to your portrait of a blond-haired, blue-eyed Jesus in a Klan robe (the one that hangs in your cave above the fire pit) that we continue to retain our humanity and leave your children out of this.

Your time on earth is coming to an end. Start making peace with your maker. You will be seeing him soon in the very near future. Promise.

US army of terrorists

the military protects free speech.

2+2=5.

Ok, i get it.

How does our military, which is constantly forcing its way into other nations and violently squashing democratic movements, protecting free speech for US citizens? IT DOESN'T!!! Free speech is constantly under attack from forces such as the police, military, and media. It is kept alive by people brave enough to use their rights (which have dwindled significantly over hte past decade).

Sabotage

The objective is to stop the war. Asking nicely doesn't work. Attacking every manifestation of the military, however, is like throwing the clog in the war machine, the war machine that is comprised not only of guns and troops, but of war profiteers, politicians, industries, etc. I think it makes perfect sense from a tactical standpoint to attack from many angles, to hit them where it hurts. Furthermore, just because people threw rocks at one window, doesn't mean that's all they do to try to stop the war. That's just silly.

Breaking news
Posted by: cliff brockjaw at Aug 05, 2008 20:48

Tacoma--TODAY local protesters struck a major victory for the peace movement. A courageous unknown agent of social change threw multiple rocks at a local Army recruiting station, causing multiple cracks in the glass. This telling blow has resulted in the decision to withdraw all troops from all overseas locations, the disbandment of the Department of Defense, and the widespread beating of swords into plowshares. Army spokesman Colonel Mustard said at a press conference, "Every day, American soldiers face death or maiming in Iraq and Afghanistan, working long hours on what is often multiple deployments. However, the decisive attack on the Tacoma Mall recruiting station proved to be the proverbial straw on the camels back. America is now at peace again."

Tough talk!

Suggestion
Posted by: A veteran at Aug 06, 2008 18:17

For those of you that feel the acting out against recruiting stations is effective; you should try something bold. How about moving to Iraq where you can truly experience censorship and oppression. If you are female, you may be allowed to go to school so you can make an educated argument against government control. Take that next step, go off and make a statement that will make the news and save some windows.

womyn and iraq
Posted by: anon at Aug 06, 2008 22:44

actually, if you'd bothered to do any research at all, you'd know that womyn's rights were much more highly respected in Iraq than the rest of the Middle East until the 2003 invasion, that womynfolk made up a very large portion of professionals, academics, and all of those other social institutions usually reserved for men, and that it wasn't until the invasion, systematic dismantling of infrastructure, and genocide unleashed upon Iraqis by the US and the militias it paid off that womynfolk were pushed out of the public eye, forced into the home, etc.

Who's being liberated, please?

Also: The military is protecting my freedom of speech? Really? Is that why we bombed Iraq, and sponsored coups in Latin America, and murdered millions of Vietnamese, and protect dictators and corporations from people trying to take control of their own lives all over the world? I know that when the police shoot me with rubber bullets and tear gas me for standing on a sidewalk, my first thought is: thank god for those soldiers over there in the desert, protecting my freedom of speech! I feel so free!

assholes. breaking a window isn't violent, murdering hundreds of thousands of iraqis is. Do you really value glass that much?

Seriously?
Posted by: Tired of protecting the undeserving... at Aug 07, 2008 10:13

Open your eyes, people. Have any of you considered that the US military isn't responsible for all of the deaths in Iraq and abroad? How many people have died over there because of suicide bombers?

Also, let's talk about research. If any of you took the time to look up the oath of enlistment, you would know that one of the main functions of the military is to support and defend the Constitution, which is where your freedom of speech comes from, so all of your faulty comparisons about invasions and freedom of speech don't accomplish anything besides making you look like a bunch of liberal sheep. I'm sick of hearing people regurgitate the same nonsensical arguments about the establishment. All of you who say there's no need for the military would cower in fear if we were ever invaded, and don't kid yourselves for a second; if someone broke the windows in your car or your home, you'd consider it a violation of your property, too. How about this--if you don't appreciate this country or the people who support and defend its way of life, find somewhere else to live.

Muslim terrorist perhaps?

You got caught returning to the scene and taking these pictures..Two Dark Skinned (Not Black) Individuals (pigs) wearing suits took these pics..I got there license number..What you wanna bet their not even US citizens living here in America and enjoying the freedom and rights protected by our Courts and Military! Say Hello to the Tacoma Police For me when they come to see you..Care for a Pork Sandwich?

You got them on the run
Posted by: Just me, OK? at Aug 08, 2008 17:22

Wow! Who would have thought breaking a few windows would change Americas foreign policy?

No, but breaking a few glass jaws can help!
Posted by: Let's start with you...! at Aug 13, 2008 23:19

Bush knowingly invaded Iraq based upon false "intelligence" created by the CIA in direct violation of the Constitution he swore to defend!

Read, idiot, read! Don't type another God damn word 'til you do(!):

If you claim to be a "patriot", then you need to be throwing rocks too, based upon the numerous violations of the letter of the law; as laid out by the so-called "Founding Fathers" that you uphold as false idols through the use of graven images (like the Amerikkkan flag, for example).

It is YOUR Constitutional duty to do so! If you do not, you should be not only tried for treason, but also join Bush, Cheney, Rice, Wolfowitz, Rove, and company at the World Court at The Hague.

This government must be forcibly removed; this is objective FACT, regardless of pet ideology. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. Or be smashed.
