B.C. man who died after arrest had criminal history

A B.C. man who died after an apparent scuffle with RCMP and transit officers had a history of criminal offences, including two convictions for assaulting a police officer.

Officials say Ryan Wagemans, 24, began acting erratically while on a public bus in the Newton area of Surrey, B.C., on Friday.

The driver of the Coast Mountain bus called transit police, who took Wagemans off the vehicle. Surrey RCMP arrived after Wagemans became aggressive, according to officials.

Witnesses say police struggled to subdue Wagemans.

"I seen two transit police, the guy was spitting up something face-down into the ground, struggling to get handcuffs on him," one witness, who did not want to be identified, told CTV British Columbia.

"Then the guy stopped breathing, wasn't moving, so they flipped him over and started pumping his chest."

Wagemans was taken to hospital but died on Tuesday. The RCMP Integrated Homicide Unit is now investigating the incident.

Wagemans, of Langley, B.C., had a criminal history involving altercations with police officers.

Court records from July 2006 show he was charged with obstructing a peace officer and assaulting a police officer. He was also found guilty of two counts of assaulting an officer in September 2007.

Pepper Spray also Kills!!!

The guy was probably tazered, pepper sprayed and or strangled into submission and took a heart attack as a result! Lots of people have died just from being pepper sprayed - their lings become instantly inflamed and so they choke to death!
But something is very hinky in this death considering that the media has come up so quickly with the (alledged) criminal record of this victim! This heinous "criminal history" media ploy is an old stand by with police to take the blame off them for using excess force on a prisoner - especially one who died as a result!

useful ploy

in a few years it wont be crime history, they will just mention prior mil service...the unspoke understanding being just another PTSD Vet gone over the edge...cops are always excused, as is Blackwater this instant, internationally, by thugish decree of our glorious leader bush.

I wonder if the "cops" in 10 years will be wearing govt issue unoforms anymore? perhaps blackwater homeland division corp issue fatigues?

i put pepper on my plate

Surrey RCMP arrived after Wagemans became aggressive, according to officials. Pepper spray can induce a defensive reaction, and tazers can definitely electroshock victims and cause heart failure.
