Please join the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action for a vigil and direct action at the gates of Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor, on Saturday, May 10, 2008, as we work towards nuclear abolition and disarmament.

The Natural Resources Defense Council estimates Bangor holds 1,600 active stockpile nuclear warheads. Additionally, six of the Trident subs based at Bangor carry the operationally deployed D5 missiles fitted with up to twelve 475 kiloton warheads each. The last two subs, the USS Henry M. Jackson and USS Alabama are currently being retrofitted to carry the D5 missile, bringing the total to eight. As of 2007, the US nuclear arsenal is estimated to contain 5,736 active stockpile warheads. Between 400 and 480 U.S. warheads are deployed at U.S. bases in England, Holland, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Turkey.

Gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Kitsap Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4418 Perry Rd., Bremerton, for nonviolence training and action planning. Bring your creativity! Guerrilla sunflowers for sure! At 1:30 p.m., we'll meet at Ground Zero, 16159 Clear Creek Rd. NW, Poulsbo, to walk or ride to the Bangor gate(s). Bring an apron, pots n' pans n' drums, food, water, warm clothes, money to donate, and positive vibes. All video footage and photographs are especially appreciated.
