Save the MLK Housing Shelter in Tacoma!

Solidarity needed at Tacoma City Council Meeting

You might have heard the rumor that the city (under pressure from downtown condo developers) is planning to shut down the Martin Luther King Jr. Homeless Shelter in Hilltop. It sadly is true. The shutdown is due primarily to the new condo development across Court E alley, whose rich tenants have decided the folks on the street don't make a pretty enough view from their windows. The condo's developer (supposedly "BRC Associates," a non-profit) is suing the city in order to shut it down for good.

Poor People's Solidarity Needed:
Attend Tacoma City Council on May 6 and let them know the King Shelter is a valuable community resource!

Stop Tacoma Gentrification: Attend Tacoma City Council on May 6 and let them know the King Shelter is a valuable community resource!

If you'd like to help prevent the King Shelter from being shutdown, please attend the City Council Meeting.

Tuesday, May 6
5 PM (meetup at 4, if you can)
Council Chambers,
First floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building
747 Market Street

Community members are asked to share their opinion on why the King Shelter is a valuable resource and to add the power of numbers to our cause.

In responce to the planned closure of the MLK Jr. Homeless Shelter, the Hilltop People's Council decided to paintbomb the Tacoma Municipal Building. This is the building where the corrupt City Council meets to decide the fates of people it does not care about whatsoever.

The City Council does not exist for the people of Tacoma, let alone the Hilltop community. It exists for its own enrcihment and the enrichment of its developer bedfellows. The City Council is concerned only with money, profit and rampant greed.

Do not let them close the shelter. Do not let them get away with this next assault on the community. The rich do not want to see the poverty they thrive off from their new condo windows. Cover their windows with paint. Break their windows. Go to the City Council meeting on May 6 and let them know what criminals they are.

In Solidarity,

Hilltop People's Council

that means those that contribute to making the condo's get "an intervention convention of greed immoral retention" to assist in alowwing the "imminent domain of need"for those who contribute.
