VIDEO: Smash Tacoma ICE

Tacoma P.D. arrested three people in the Smash Tacoma ICE march on Friday. Members of the march were singled out and dragged behind police lines for arrest.

The Homeland Security Detention Center was the object of protest on Friday in Tacoma. Our group marched through downtown to Wells Fargo, since it is one of the largest stock holders of the Geo Group -- the global corporation that runs the Northwest Detention Center. Police guarded sidewalks and walkways below the building to protect Wells Fargo's interests.

Our group occupied the intersection of 11th and Commerce for nearly twelve minutes, as we circled the crosswalks repeatedly while passing out literature on the ICE Homeland Security Detention Center. Tacoma Police eventually forced the group onto sidewalks, and in retaliation, arrested two members.

Tacoma P.D. had sent warnings to the community to fear the march, rather than participate in it. No property was destroyed, and all the arrests made were in response to non-violence. A Tacoma SDS member was arrested for spitting on the ground, for example. An Infoshop member was arrested while standing on a sidewalk. A Portland Bike Militia member -- as seen in the video -- was arrested for apparently complying with the officer's order to "back away from his officer."

Another video on Smash ICE should come out soon. Tacoma SDS is busy uploading video from Olympia.

i think much was accomplished on this day. more than 500 leaflets were past out. many people who were not planing on seeing a march joined in when they found out what it was for. many of the streets were shut down and buses on pacific and commerce had to be rerouted. much was accomplished. we wont stop until that place does not exist. there will be no compromise. see you next time. maybe apathy is your word of the day.

the "illegals"...

think of who is really here illegally... people of european descent. we occupy, to this day, stolen native land (which we are destroying and thanks to genocide, brutality, rape, and torture we are able to occupy it).

so think twice before you toss around the term "illegal"

Grow up

Oh get over it, "illegal". That's a tired mantra, and an ignorant one.

Dumb ass.

Apart from the fact that the indigenous inhabitants of what is now America probably didn't have laws restricting immigration, what is ignorant about it? The point isn't literal (il)legality, it's about the hypocritical and oppressive content of today's immigration laws. Whether you're a Native American or not, buying into the "illegal" argument only serves the rich ruling class.

I disagree

I disagree, X9. Numerous posters here have made it very clear that they mean the literal interpretation of 'illegal'. Regardless though, it's still an ignorant position and shows little or no understanding of immigration law or the facts regarding legal immigration. Aside from that, what's oppressive or hyprocritical about our immigration laws? We are a soveriegn country, that is indisputable. We have laws governing immigration. If citizens of other countries don't like our laws that's too bad. They have no say in them and to think they do is ludicrous.

I don't truly understand your meaning behind "buying into the "illegal" argument only serves the rich ruling class". Please clarify that
