"Rachel Corrie: An American Conscience"
A Documentary Film From Palestine

Monday, May 16th
Condon Hall Rm 109 (1100 NE Campus Parkway, University of Washington)
7 pm - 9 pm

This is the first Palestinian film to be shown to the General Assembly at the UN.

Yahya Barakat, the director of this powerful documentary, goes beyond the politics of the Occupation to depict facts on the ground. He shows the Palestinian dilemma and what motivates members of the international peace movement to come to Palestine. Barakat's earlier movie is "The House of God", a documentary that brought to life the memorable siege of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem by the Israeli army in 2002.

Yahya Barakat will be in attendance at the showing. He is eager to talk with the audience and answer questions after the film.

International Solidarity Movement activist, Rachel Corrie, was killed when an Israeli soldier ran her over with a bulldozer in March 2003. Rachel was from Olympia. The bulldozer is made by Caterpillar which is here in the United State. Rachel died trying to stop the demolition of the home of Dr. Samir Nasrallah and his family.

"he bulldozer is made by Caterpillar which is here in the United State. Rachel died trying to stop the demolition of the home of Dr. Samir Nasrallah and his family. "

LOL!!!The good doctor had vacated his smuggling tunnel long before the Israeli army was clearing the brush. Corrie, a native of Olympia Washington died of stufidity, when being hit in the head by falling debris as she played peekaboo with a giant very slow moving bulldozer

Rachels that the Fashionable Left Ignors
Posted by: Kelly at May 12, 2005 06:30

It is ironic to reflect that there have been several real victims of the intifada called Rachel – and hard to believe that these critics have ever heard of them. All these other Rachels died within a few months of Corrie but – unlike her – in circumstances that weren’t disputed. They were deliberately murdered:

Rachel Levy (17, blown up in a grocery store);
Rachel Levi (19, shot while waiting for the bus);

Rachel Gavish (killed with her husband, son and father while at home celebrating a Pessah meal);

Rachel Charhi (blown up while sitting in a Tel Aviv cafe, leaving three young children);

Rachel Shabo (murdered with her three sons aged 16, 13 and five, while at home).

I hope they show the footage of Saint Rachel burning the American flag while screaming like a demon in front of arab children. They'll really like that at the UN.

Yes, there should be more footage of...

is more evidence that professional pro-Isreal lobby groups are posting on this web-site. I belive the whole string of pro-Isreali posts was probably put out by AIPAC, or one of the other Isreali PR organizations operating in the US.

First the comment dismisses the fact that Rachel Corrie probably was intentionally murdered.
Secondly it dismisses the entire context in which the Intefada is taking place. A nation cannot murder thousands of people, steal land, homes, water and force people into refugee camps with the conditions of Calcutta without some sort of violent retribution. We are talking about a situation like the Cherokee removal from North Carolina to Oklahoma, or Poland in 1940. A racist attack usually gets a racist counter-attack. Martain Luther King knew this, and tried to break the cycle of violence. There are many Palastinians who are working non-violently to change things. They are very often killed or jailed and tortured by the Isrealis. Rachel Corrie joined them in the same spirit as thousands of white people travelling to the South to change things during our country's Civil Rights Era. But there is a limit as to how long individuals and groups can remain non-violent in tactics, as this whole country found out after Martain Luther King was shot, and the Gettos of America violently rebelled.

Israel is the free and millennia-old expression of the Jewish people's ties to that land and a manifestation of the national aspirations and self-determination that are the right of every people, including the Palestinian people when and if they finally decide to love Palestine more than they hate Israel.

Norman,
Posted by: E MIesner at May 12, 2005 12:55

Don't you see how the Nation of Isreal is using Jewish people for an end that is not in their best interest. As the Ku Klux Klan has used poor white people to do favors for rich people and corporations, often times against their own interest such as in union busting, the State of Isreal is using Jewish people (and Russians who say they are Jewish) to act as stooges for international oil companies as part of a greater plan to control the Mid-East.

So....

Since the religion that some of my family was raised in has it's roots in Rome, I should be able to go to Rome, kill people, take their land, and jail and torture anyone who complains, including children. It should give me the "God given right" to jail people who have history books that claim that I don't have a right to the land. I should have a right to all the water and mineral resources. I can dictate who the Roman people can trade with and where they can work. I can kill anyone who presents himself as a leader of the Roman people if I disaprove of him. I have a right to rig elections in the areas around Rome. Since I call myself one of "Gods chosen people" I am entitled to billions of dollars a year of US tax money to fund an expansionist military to routinly take even more land in the vacinity of Rome (and train terrorists in other countries including Latin America). Because the people in the rest of Italy and Europe will not like me doing this I have a right to own a vast supply of nuclear bombs, just in case. You know I have a right to do this because the people in Rome are not Catholic anymore, and some people in my family ARE practicing Catholics. TO HELL WITH ANY PERSON THAT THINKS THEY ARE INHERENTLY BETTER THAN OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THEIR RELIGION!!!! ZIONISTS INCLUDED!!!

Look, people are dying because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, both Israeli and Palestinian, Christian, Muslim, Jew, Druze, and other. However, more Palestinians have been killed then Israelis. Considering that Israelis out number Palestinians, the effects on their population is much higher. And while suicide bombings are actions carried out by individuals, the occupation represents the decisions and policy of a government; people who are supposed to uphold a just society. No one is condonign violence- on any side. But the actions of a frustrated, threatened suicide bomber who has grown up under 24 hour surfew, with checkpoints, house demolitions, road blockades, lack of water, electricity, jobs, and more makes a lot more sense than rich Israeli politicians who stay in power and money off of ignorant hate.

Those things exist BECAUSE of the suicide bombings and attacks and murders of innocent Israeli civilians...What idiot decides that being a suicide bomber is a legitimate form of peace negotiation...worse yet, what kind of idits defend these crimes agaisnt humanity, as if the poor palestinaians have no other choice.

Rachel Corrie--American Stupid
Posted by: Felix Rodriguez at May 12, 2005 19:40

Maybe the fools will realize that war isn't play. Rachel died helping/protecting Israel's enemy as a human shield. Tough. It was stupid to be a pawn of Palestinian killers and the price for that stupidity was her life.

Too bad more from the USA--maybe her professor at Evergreen?--don't go to Israel and die defending murderers of Israeli children. We wouldn't miss them either.

Zionists need to let go
Posted by: E MIesner at May 12, 2005 22:55

They need to realize that stealing land, homes and lives will only bring hostility from their neighbors. As long as Isreal is backed by US money it will continue to be expansionist in nature. Therefore it will continue to be counter attacked by people who have lost their farms, homes and families to the genocidal forces of Isreal. South Africa used to be this way. Eventually they realized that it was too costly not to be part of the human race and ended Aparthied. Isreal will have to do the same at some point. The US money will not last forever.

The term you seek is anti-Semitism, not racism. Bigotry against religion, not race. Otherwise all those wonderful Arabs in places like Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, etc. would not have evicted their Jewish countrymen, since they were the same race.

Sheesh. One would think that a lefty nazi (I know, the two words are redundant) like yourself would be able to keep your slogans and cookie cutter epithets straight. Back to reeducation camp for you!

NAZI NAZI NAZI!!!!! Thats right what could be worse than a NAZI NAZI NAZI!!!! IS that what they teach you in the AIPAC training seminars?

By the way, Jewish people in other Arabic speaking countries were NOT expelled until some European Jews orchastrated by the British-American Empire started a genocidal policy against real Semites in Palistine in 1947.

What a fool
Posted by: Felix Rodriguez at May 15, 2005 21:37

So the Jews expelled (killed, robbed, abused) from Arab countries deserved their persecution because of actions by some other Jews somewhere else. Now that is a rational argument. Next you will be quoting the Protocols of Zion and using that as a justification for Arab attempts at genocide against Israel.

And no, little meisy, you aren't a nazi because you irrationally hate Israel. You are a nazi because you are a leftist. Try to keep up, meisy. Goose stepping, genocidal totalitarians come from the same fever swamp.

No, Ignorant DIPSHIT!!
Posted by: E MIesner at May 15, 2005 22:40

They did not deserve to be expelled any more than Palastinians do. Hovever, most Arab Jews who have been forces to live in Isreal truly belive that the Isreali government was behind their expulsions. The Arab countries in the Eaastern Mediterainian had very little ethnic conflict prior to the Zionist invasion.
I do not belive the feigned ignorance of these Zionist posters. Do they train you to do that at AIPAC too?

oh, besides

Oh sure, the evil Israeli government forced those Islamic states--that would be the states who had declared genocidal war on Israel, by the way--to expell their Jewish citizens and steal their property.

Wow! Keep it up, Meisy. I couldn't dream this crap up with a lifetime supply of drugs. Any more evidence of the world wide Jewish/Zionist conspiracy? Maybe the Holocaust was filmed in a basement in LA?

And Hitler killed Bolsheviks for the same reason Bolsheviks killed Trotskyites--could not stand alternative leftist ideologies.

Although the nazis called themselves "socialists", (actually anybody had to to be elected in Europe in the thirties) they embarked on a campaign of forced labor in private industry. Everywhere the nazis had control of they used the military to force workers to work for little or no pay enhancing corporate profits. Even US owned companies profited of the Third Reich's exploitation of slave labor. (I on the other hand oppose such government measures.) However the Isreali government seems to be engaged in many of the same activities that made Nazi Germany so reprehensible. Forcing people of other ethnic groups into gettos and camps, where clean water and food are very scarce, shooting them at will and without any legal consequences. Using their labor for corporate profits.
Calling people like me "lefties" or "nazis" does not change the facts of invasion and occupation.

Tell us, Meisy, do you make this shit up wholesale or does it trickle out of your diseased brain one little piece of stool at a time and you just piece it together at random? Quite the little nazi, aren't you?

As for forcing Arabs into ghettos, that was the action of the surround nations, not Israel. Those poor Arabs who deserted their villages on the encouragement of the aggressor nations in 1948 were stuck in the camps by Arabs. Those same Arab nations were not even willing to create another nation for their Arab brethren. Instead the Arab nations kept the West Bank as a refugee camp. And even after those Arabs received their own little state with extensive grants of aid, those shitty little cities--no longer camps--remained while genocidal kleptocrats like Arafat stashed away billions for himself.

Israel's main problem is their continued insistence on dealing with these diseased killers in a civilized manner. Any of Meisy favored nations (Syria, N. Korea, Zimbabwe, etc.) would have run those peoples out of their country or executed a goodly percentage of them.

Also, you might like to try thinking for yourself. Then you might be able to comprehend other people who do the same.

Amnesty International is...
Posted by: AIPAC official communique at May 25, 2005 10:34

obviously a neo-nazi organization committed to the extermination of all Jews. Whereas the Isreali military is a bastion of civil rights and love toward all people.

(I am sure that if we keep calling them nazis then some people will believe it.)

An international human rights group has accused Israel of committing abuses that constitute crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The annual report by the human rights watchdog group Amnesty International (AI) criticised the Israeli use of Palestinians as human shields, extra-judicial killings, systematic house demolitions, torture, collective punishment and closures and deliberate killing of civilians.

Some 700 Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupying forces last year alone, an increase from the previous year's figure of 600, according to the report. About 150 of these were children, many killed deliberately and unlawfully, charged the watchdog group.

"Many were killed in deliberate as well as reckless shooting, shelling and bombardment of densely populated residential areas or as a result of excessive use of force," said the group.

"Certain abuses committed by the Israeli army constituted crimes against humanity and war crimes"

Amnesty International

The report also said some 109 Israelis, most of them civilians and including eight children, were killed by Palestinian armed groups in bombings, shootings and mortar attacks inside Israel and in the occupied territories.

But AI also accused the Israeli army of granting impunity to soldiers and settlers whose crimes against innocent Palestinians went unpunished.

"In the overwhelming majority of the thousands of cases of unlawful killings and other grave human rights violations committed by Israeli soldiers in the previous four years, no investigations were known to have been carried out," the report stated.

House demolitions

The group went on to attack Israel 's policies of house demolitions in the southern Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army destroyed 300 homes and damaged about 270 others in a refugee camp in Rafah, leaving close to 4000 Palestinians homeless

"Routine destruction of Palestinian homes, land and property in the West Bank and Gaza Strip was stepped up in the biggest wave of house demolitions in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the intifada," said the report.

Amnesty further criticised Israel's continual expansion of the illegal separation wall and increased attacks by Jewish settlers against Palestinians and international activists, and the destruction of their property and crops.

Separation Wall

The wall has cut off many
Palestinians from their land

"The wall and hundreds of Israeli army checkpoints and blockades throughout the occupied territories continued to hinder or prevent Palestinians' access to their land, their workplaces and to education, health and other crucial services," wrote the group.

The Hague-based International Court of Justice ruled unlawful the construction by Israel of a barrier inside the occupied West Bank last July.

The Israeli army declined to comment on the report.

In a chapter devoted to the Palestinian Authority, the human rights group said security officials were involved in fighting between various resistance groups, which killed dozens of Palestinians.

According to AI, 18 Palestinians were killed in the clashes after they were suspected of collaboration with Israel.

The excuses

The report further criticised the United States for disregarding rule of law worldwide and turning a blind eye to Israeli excesses in the name of "counter-terrorism".

"The USA, as the unrivalled political, military and economic hyper-power, sets the tone for governmental behaviour worldwide. When the most powerful country in the world thumbs its nose at the rule of law and human rights, it grants a licence to others to commit abuse with impunity and audacity," read the report.

"From Israel to Uzbekistan, Egypt to Nepal, governments have openly defied human rights and international humanitarian law in the name of national security and 'counter-terrorism," it concluded.

Uproar

The report has caused an uproar in Israel, with Yahad (Meretz) lawmaker Zahava Gal-On on Wednesday calling for an urgent Knesset debate following its publication.

The Israeli government, meanwhile, accused the human rights watchdog group of holding a "very one-sided and extremist position".

Eimat Hurvitz of Amnesty International's Israeli office, rejected such claims, saying that Israel is judged by the same standard as other nations.

Hurvitz told Aljazeera.net: "These are not new definitions [of war crimes], they are taken from the Nuremburg trial after the Holocaust that brought to trial Nazi leaders: crimes that are perpetrated against civilians and that are part of a systemic policy."

He gave the example of the Israeli assassination of Palestinians as a policy that "takes into account civilians deaths but doesn't take them into account".

In the end, Hurvitz said definitions are not important; abiding by the report is.

"What's important is how do we in next year, what's important is to have less attacks against civilians or minimise such attacks. We hope Israel and the Palestinian Authority will read it and try to incorporate some of the issues into their actions, and not only try to defy it or explain why it is wrong."

Communists and Anarchist tolerate each others comments, though they do not always agree. I think ideally, this web site as people discussing the actual merits of an argument rather than acuse people of being something. So instead of lableing a person "anti-semetic" which is a vauge term at best, and has been misused by many people, try instead to actually argue your point.

Posted by: E Miesner at Jun 05, 2005 11:38

First off, "Semite" refers to anyone who speaks a Semetic based language, which includes both Arabs and Hebrews. So when Zionists refer to Arabs living in Palastine who oppose European Jews stealing their land as anti-Semites the term is being used bacwards, as most Russians and Americans who have settled have little understanding of the Hebrew language as it is a second language to them. Judeaism is a religion. So to call someone who may or may not be Jewish or Arabic who is opposed to the ethnic cleansing policies of the Nation of of Isreal as an anti-Semite is also a poor choice of words. Since this word is so often misused these days it might be better for you to define your terms and explain what you mean by anti-Semetic rather than blather out acusations.

its very interesting that a bunch of inflexible pro israeli rabble rousers enter this arena of media. i wonder if it is truly to stifle any level of dissent in our policy concerning the occupied territories(probably dont like that phrase either) or if these people really learn from debate. it is not successful to fight fire with fire, and israel loses all credibility when it inflicts the crimes horribly committed against them while the rest of the world stood by against another people. yes, some of the villages razed by the israeli army harbor people who intend to harm civilians, but you do not take a 'kill em all, let god sort it out' approach to the problem. i have always held in great esteem, the israeli's will to survive. they have taken things to far in the name of defense though. it IS time to cut off aid to israel unless they stop employing tactics that are just uncivilized.

Israeli Supreme Court Approves Sharon's Evil

Israeli Supreme Court Approves
Sharon's Evil Expulsion Plan

At a June 7, 2005 meeting in Yesha, Mofaz warned that all pioneers resisting the threatened expulsion will be thrown in prison

As expected, the Israeli Supreme Court approved (10-1) Bolshevik dictator Ariel Sharon's evil plan to violently expel the Yesha Jews

As expected, the extreme left-wing Israeli Supreme Court approved Israeli Bolshevik dictator Ariel Sharon's evil plan to violently expel heroic Jewish pioneering families from their G-d-given homeland in Gush Katif of the Gaza District and in northern Samaria. Sharon wants to violently drag 10,000 Jewish patriots out of their homes and throw them in prison camps in order to create an independent PLO terrorist state in Yesha (Judea, Samaria and the Gaza District).

Edmond Levy was the Israeli Supreme Court's only dissenting vote in its decision to expel the Yesha Jews - Levy, the court's only religious Jew, characterized the Sharon retreat and expulsion as a mortal threat to the safety and survival of Israel, and attacked it as a violation of the Torah, Israeli law and the tenets of Zionism

The Bolshevik Supreme Court ruled 10 to 1 in favor of the planned Sharon pogrom. The only dissenting judge, Edmond Levy, is also the only religious judge on the Stalinist high court.

Levy courageously attacked the Sharon surrender in his very scholarly dissenting opinion. Levy noted that the Sharon retreat and expulsion is a violation of the laws of the Torah, a violation of Israeli laws that protect human rights and dignity, a violation of the tenets of Zionism and a mortal threat to the security and the survival of the entire State of Israel.

Despite the Israeli Supreme Court's evil decision, tens of thousands of heroic right-wing Jews will not stop resisting the criminal Sharon pogrom

The other ten hopelessly wicked Stalinist "judges" ignored all of their own prior rulings against the expulsion of Arab Muslims. This same Supreme Court has ruled that Israel cannot even temporarily expel convicted Arab Muslim terrorist murderers from their homes because it supposedly violates the "human rights" of the convicted PLO mass murderers and because it supposedly violates "international law." But permanently throwing over 10,000 loyal and law-abiding Jewish men, women and children out of their homes is permitted, according to the self-hating scum of the Supreme Court.

The treasonous Supreme Court majority also ruled in favor of the fascist laws that the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) passed which call for five year prison terms for anyone engaging in peaceful civil disobedience to protest the suicidal Sharon expulsion. This is the same Supreme Court that often releases Arab Muslim terrorist mass murderers from prison in less than five years. So noble young Jews who engage in civil disobedience - like what Martin Luther King and Mahatma
Ghandi did - will spend more time in prison than Muslim Nazi mass murderers of defenseless Jewish women and children.

The monstrous Supreme Court decision will not stop the valiant resistance of tens of thousands of right-wing Jews who will seek to physically block the criminal Sharon pogrom with their bodies and who are willing to go to prison to save their people and their G-d-given homeland. Every self-respecting Jew and every moral human being can have nothing but contempt for the corrupt, cowardly and hypocritical filth that pollutes the Supreme Court of Israel.

"There were also judges in Sodom who approved of the most evil plans," the Hilltop Youth said in a statement released to the public. "This vile decision will in no way deter the large and growing number of Jews who realize that unless we physically resist Sharon's treason, we will lose the Jewish state, G-d forbid."

Meanwhile, the resistance to the Bolshevik expulsion continues to grow.

Last week, over 150 government offices were locked up with special chains so that it took hours to get them opened. The police commented that to do this to over 150 government offices all over Israel in one morning requires a sophisticated and massive organization.

The next day, young Jews blocked Israel's rail lines. And the day after that, ripped copies of the Nazi Koran nearly caused Arab Muslim riots and required a massive police mobilization.

Even leftist polls show Israelis turning against Sharon's insane plan. The latest national poll shows only 48% now support the expulsion - the first time a leftist poll shows less than a majority in favor of Sharon's criminal proposal.

Arab Muslim Nazi terrorists released from Israeli prison pay homage to their beloved leader, the late Arab Hitler Yasser Arafat, an Islamic terrorist and pedophile who died of AIDS

And that is 48% of all Israeli citizens - including the 22% of Israeli citizens who are Arabs, who naturally are almost unanimously in favor of the suicidal retreat. Among Israeli Jews, a majority are now against Sharon and his grotesque expulsion.

A murderous and jubilant Arab Muslim Nazi terrorist is welcomed home after his release from prison by left-wing Israeli dictator Ariel Sharon

Sharon's problem is even more pronounced among young Jews. The younger Jews are, the more right-wing they tend to be because it is the right-wing groups - the religious and the Mizrachiim (non-European Jews) - who have the vast majority of babies in Israel today.

Thus, 50% of all Israeli army officers now come from the religious nationalist community that vehemently opposes Sharon's retreat. Many have said that they will refuse to obey orders to expel their fellow Jews.

Sharon hopes to mobilize the older and less right-wing miluim (reserve soldiers) to make up for the many thousands of young religious soldiers who intend to disobey
Sharon's immoral, illegal and anti-Jewish orders.

Half of all Israeli army officers come from the religious nationalist community vehemently opposed to the Sharon retreat and expulsion plan - Young Jewish pioneers in Netzarim of the Gaza District, one of the communities slated for depopulation by the Israeli government, practiced self-defense against the Arab Muslim terrorists who surround them on all sides

Who will win in the end? It is too early to know. But at least now - thanks to JTF's right-wing allies such as brilliant Jewish dissident Noam Federman and the Hilltop Youth - we have a fighting chance, and Sharon and the Bolshevik establishment that he heads are genuinely worried.

JTF supports the political activities of the Hilltop Youth, and therefore is not tax-deductible.

The Voice of Jewish Activism (VJA) is strictly non-political. It supports the educational efforts and the humanitarian needs of the Hilltop Youth and right-wing Jewish dissidents and therefore is tax-deductible.

Your generous checks and money orders made out to "VJA" can be sent to:

We need loyal, idealistic, Torah-true Jews to lead the struggle against the traitor Sharon's suicidal retreat.

We have the Torah-true leaders and we have the thousands of young idealists. But they need more money to conduct such a huge and sophisticated campaign.

In the historic struggle for Israel's survival, this is the moment of truth.

Which is why we strongly urge our many loyal readers - both Jews and righteous Gentiles - to immediately do the
following four things:

A heroic Jewish pioneer heckles Israeli "Defense" Minister Shaul Mofaz as he discusses the planned expulsion of Jews from the Gaza District and northern Samaria

First, if you are a wealthy Jew or a wealthy righteous Gentile, and you have wealthy friends and associates, you can hold a fundraising cocktail party for JTF (which is political but not tax-deductible) or VJA (which is tax-deductible and non-political). Even if you are not wealthy - but have wealthy friends and associates - you can organize a cocktail party. If you wish to hold a cocktail party, please contact us.

Second, make out a generous check or money order (which can be anonymous) to "JTF" or "VJA" and send it out right away. If you prefer, you can also mail a cash donation.

Third, zealously spread the word about the JTF.ORG web site. Posting portions of JTF.ORG on popular internet message boards is especially effective. We do get many new hits when we are posted.

Fourth, please remember to include the "Jewish Task Force (JTF)" and/or the "Voice of Jewish Activism (VJA)" in your will.

Mr Félix Rodriguez (nice nick, matey. Did AIPAC issue it to you?) writes in one of his prior spews:

"Meis, an ability to stay on topic is considered to be requisite for rational debate. Emphasis on the word "rational". Otherwise one ends up spewing unrelated slogans and talking points at the most inconvenient times in a vain attempt to make sense."

Gawlee! ¿You Zionists RATIONAL? Can you go over the hateful bullshit you have written so far and point an iota of rationality within them?

And why if you are so concerned about life, and the whole notion of "defending it", do you have to insult the memory of Rachel Corrie, who was killed by one of yours?
In fact, who low into the depths of shame can you get, insulting from the privacy of your computer a person who is DEAD and can not answer you back? (believe me that if she was alive, she would give you a proper rap, in style.)
Cowards. Shite. What else could one expect of a people who find nothing odd with their army shooting children in the head.

Yeah, and if she were alive, she'd be the queen of England, and dress like the eater bunny and fart nickels.
But, the fact is, she dead. She died of stupidity. Defending terrorists who smuggle weapons to murder women and children. What would you expect from people who defend those who strap bombs to their children, send them into restaurants, shopping malls and school buses and detonate them by remote control.

Her death, though horribly tragic is very little compared to what Palestinians have been going through for the last 56 years. To a small farmer in a third world country the loss of land or water means that the entire family will have to pack up & live in a slum, where disease is rampant, where death is just as sure as a bullet, but slower. She took chances and made a difference, others except millions living in refugee camps without jobs, and little food or water, were children die every day of preventable diseases AND bullets. Thanks Rachel.

Fatah admits murdered Bethlehem 'collaborators' were innocent

Fatah gunmen admitted over the weekend that nine
Palestinians who were murdered in Bethlehem on suspicion of collaboration with Israel were actually innocent victims of lawlessness.

The suspected "collaborators" were executed by members of Fatah's armed wing, Aksa Martyrs Brigades, shortly before the IDF raided Bethlehem in 2002 as part of Operation Defensive Shield.

Some of the suspects were being held by the Palestinian Authority security forces before they were handed over to the gunmen.

This was not the first time that a Palestinian group had exonerated Palestinians who were murdered on suspicion of assisting Israeli security forces. Earlier this year, Hamas admitted that its members had mistakenly murdered a man from a village near Ramallah after accusing him of collaboration with Israel. Hamas also agreed to pay $30,000 in compensation to the family of the victim.

Since the outbreak of the intifada, scores of Palestinians have been murdered in the West Bank and Gaza Strip for allegedly helping the Shin Bet (Israel's Internal Security Service) track down and kill wanted gunmen and members of various Palestinian factions. Most of the killings have been claimed by the Aksa Martyrs Brigades.

Over 200 Palestinians are being held in PA prisons on suspicion of collaboration with Israel. At least two dozen have been sentenced either to death or life imprisonment.

Most of the "collaborators" in Bethlehem were kidnapped and executed in public squares by Fatah gunmen, some whom have been given sanctuary in European countries after hiding in the Church of Nativity during the IDF incursion of 2002.

Hours before IDF tanks rolled into Bethlehem, dozens of Fatah gunmen raided PA prisons and abducted nine men who were being held as Israeli spies. The detainees were made to stand against walls, where they were shot before cheering crowds.

A leaflet distributed by the Aksa Martyrs Brigades in the city has now referred to the victims as "victims of lawlessness," hinting that they may have been innocent after all. "These detainees were not protected as a result of lawlessness."

The group blamed Israel's military offensive for the lawlessness. It said that after reviewing the files of the victims, "The Aksa Martyrs Brigades has decided to close this case for once and for all. No one is allowed to talk about it from now on. Anyone who violates or tries to create internal strife will be punished severely."

Following the announcement, the families of some of the victims declared that they would now receive condolences for the death of their sons.

The families have insisted, over the past three years, that their sons were innocent. They refused to accept condolences until the murderers withdrew their allegations.

The truth is that you are just a sick oportunist who, eager to prove YOUR own hatred for life other that your kind, is willing to "quote" death toll numbers from the press as if you could make a point. The point does linger, though, that you are still laughing at the death of Rachel, calling her all sort of rubbish for having had the guts to stand against oppression. Plain simple. And don´t go off searching for another article on palestine lives to quote at your personal discretion in an attempt to make a point about "life", specially when you dont give a flying fuck for it (specially about palestinian lives.... I´m pretty darn sure that you must have quite a riot of a time celebrating those deaths from the confort of your garden while holding a barbecue.)

And by the way, two thumbs up (your arse...) for Sharon´s initiative of emptying (and hey, bulldozing!!!) jewish settlements in Gaza. ¿Sobering winds?

From Patient to Suicide Bomber
By Martin Fletcher
MSNBC | July 5, 2005

BEERSHEBA, Israel - Wafa al-Biri, a 21-year-old Palestinian woman with a lovely face and a quiet voice, seems an unlikely candidate for a suicide mission.

Yet her greatest wish, she told reporters, was to kill 30 to 50 Jews, including children.

The motives of suicide bombers are many, mysterious and murky. And rarely are they as stated by the bombers on camera.

Wafa's case sheds some light on what is to many an incomprehensible phenomenon. Why do people become suicide bombers? More specifically, if male martyrs reputedly get 72 virgins in paradise, what do women suicide bombers get?

Starting with a thank-you note

Wafa, who is from a Gaza refugee camp, claimed she always wanted to be a martyr. She says the Israelis kill and maim her people and she wants to do the same to them.

Only two months earlier, Wafa's family wrote a thank-you note on her behalf to Soroka hospital in the southern Israeli town of Beersheba.

They thanked doctors and nurses, especially Igor Resnik and nurse Mazal, for their "great efforts and wonderful, warm attitude" in helping Wafa survive burns over 45 percent of her body. A gas cooker had blown up while she was making dinner, burning her everywhere except her face.

Dr. Yuval Krieger, the Israeli doctor who treated Wafa, said she arrived from the Palestinian hospital of Shifa with infected burn wounds. The treatment she had was not good and her burns were dressed incorrectly.

"Did you save her life?" Krieger was asked.

"I believe so, yes," he replied.

But Wafa didn't arrive for Monday's 8 a.m. appointment. "I didn't think much about it. I just marked her as one of the people who didn't show up," Krieger said.

Wafa had begun the journey to her appointment with Krieger, arriving at the Erez border crossing from Gaza into Israel around 5:30 a.m., armed with a letter detailing her appointment and her official permission to cross into Israel for humanitarian reasons.

But that wasn't all the young woman was armed with. She carried a 20-pound bomb inside her underwear. Her target was the outpatient clinic of Soroka hospital and, inevitably, the doctor who saved her life.

Descent

But how did the grateful young burn victim become a suicide bomber?

One thing is for sure: It wasn't the religious and nationalist reasons she stated to reporters after soldiers stopped her at the border crossing, made her undress and discard the bomb, which a robot then detonated harmlessly.

It also wasn't her burning desire since childhood to be a martyr, as she claimed. It also wasn't because of the Israeli occupation, which was the motivation of her handlers from the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, the militant group that she said gave her the bomb, drove her to the crossing and gave her instructions.

We know these things because of another young woman, Latifah, whose son shared a ward with Wafa in the Soroka burns unit. Latifah met Wafa in the hospital and they became friends. At her son's bedside, her hands folded, Latifah recounted to NBC News what Wafa told her in the month they spent together, chatting daily.

"Before she was burned her mom told me that Wafa was a very funny girl, very active, laughing a lot," Latifah said. "But after the burning she became very tired and depressed. And often Wafa said to me, ‘I can't live like this, I am so ugly, I want to commit suicide.’ She had a fiance. But after the accident he left her. Then she kept crying, ‘Nobody will want me, I am too ugly, my body is scarred everywhere’."

When Wafa was released from Soroka, she didn't want to leave, Latifah said. "She was screaming, shouting, ‘Please don't let me go. I am better here. I'm going to die.’ But they made her leave, on a stretcher, and they took her home to Gaza."

Later Latifah visited her new friend in the small home the family occupies in the Jabalya refugee camp. They're nice people, poor people, simple people, Latifah said.

But with her ugly wounds, Wafa lost her friends. She was lonely.

Then, Latifah continued, "Suddenly she said, ‘I want to commit suicide. If there is anyone who will give me a bomb to blow myself up I will do it.’ Her mom shouted, ‘Shut up — don't say that. We don't need more problems’."

Wafa's mother told Latifah that her daughter was sick, unhappy, and might need a psychiatrist. "But her brothers said, ‘No, people will talk about us, they'll think she's crazy. We should take her for a walk. Maybe she will change her mind’."

Worst of cases

Krieger pointed out to us that patients with severe burns usually become depressed and proper psychological counseling is critical, even in the best of cases.

In the Jabalya refugee camp, jilted by her fiance, surrounded by shamed brothers, scared parents and poverty, Wafa al-Biri was the worst of cases.

She was easy pickings for someone with a bomb and a cause. According to Wafa, the al-Aqsa militants came knocking. Here was a vulnerable young woman, willing to die, and moreover with the golden ticket — a pass for humanitarian reasons to a hospital in Israel.

After all, who would check the underwear of a sick young woman on her way to the hospital?

A hundred patients mill around the outpatient ward in the morning. Wafa could die a hero and a martyr with Jewish blood on her hands and not just her veins, after the dozen blood transfusions she received in the Israeli hospital.

And she would have, if the Israeli secret services hadn't received a tip that a female suicide bomber was on the way and alerted all Gaza border crossings. When Wafa showed up Monday morning, the soldiers were ready.

Time freezes

Wafa found herself alone that dawn, locked between a metal turnstile behind her and a metal gate in front, a soldier shouting instructions through a loudspeaker to drop her pants and the bomb, and two cameras recording her every move. She was caught.

Frustrated, Wafa decided to die anyway. As she flinched to her left, with her deformed right hand she brusquely pulled the detonator string in her right pocket. Time froze in that instant. But instead of exploding in a blast of smoke, flame and burning air and lethal metal, the string came out in her hand. Wafa lived.

Thrusting her hand into her pocket and fiddling with the detonator, Wafa tried again and again. Then, in a primeval scream of rage and frustration and smacking her neck again and again, Wafa burst into tears, condemned to live.

As for Krieger, he's alive too and so are all the nurses and patients that would have died if Wafa had succeeded in her plan.

"That evening I came back home and one of my friends called me and asked if I'm going to the synagogue to pray. I said why?" he said.

"Don't you know? Your life has probably been saved by the soldiers. You should send them flowers and say thanks to God. And that's what I'm going to do."

Asked if he would think twice the next time a patient arrives from Gaza, he said no, the hospital treats Palestinians from Gaza every day.

But then Krieger paused and the pause stretched. "Let's say that we treat everyone with no questions, and we always will, wherever they are from," he said finally. "But I never imagined that a patient would try to hurt me. We will have to look more carefully at our security."

For the medical staff of Soroka hospital, a sick person is a patient. But for the Palestinian militants of al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, someone sick like Wafa is just a vulnerable person waiting to be manipulated, a potential suicide bomber.

How bout Shabra and Shatila for a news item. And hey, did you hear about USS Liberty? Thats the name of the American Navy Boat attacket by Israel during the Israel-Egyptian war. Israel knew it was an american ship. They sent un-marked Migs to blast the hell out of defenseless people. Then they attacked the ship from sea w/ torpeados, trying to sink the ship. Some guy named Ariel Sharon was a big guy in the military then (as in Shabra and Shatila).
The Us navy commanders thought it was an Egyptian attack. They phoned McNamara and requested permission to respond with nuclear power against EGYPT. McNamara said "No way" and his orders were "to do nothing".
He knew already that the attack been carried out by unmarked Israely forces. The point was to try and make the US think they had been attacked by Egypt, so as to get the US involved in the war.
This is factual information. With it in mind (and considering similar things occur more often than not) tell me what the fucking scoundrel state of Israel ISN´T capable of doing.

It wasn't the Israel0Egyptian War. it happened during the SIX DAY WAR, where Israel miraculously defeated 14 Arab armies completely and devestatingly in ONLY SIX DAYS.
The NSA had a spy ship off the coast of Egypt, monitoring Israeli troop movements.
Bottom line, Israel apologized and paid reparations.
When was the last time an Arab apologized for killing Americans (over 50 slaughtered duriong the most recent bloody intifada) let alone pay reparations?
