PRESS RELEASE: Déjà Vu Xmas

author: Bob De Dea
Nov 17, 2004 12:28

This over-the-edge review, bursting with wacky skits and snappy songs, pokes fun (with an irreverent finger) at the holiday experience. Often satirical, seldom politically correct, Déjà Vu Xmas will have you rolling in the aisles with delight (this annoys the waiters, however; please adjust your gratuity accordingly). Join us for outrageous running gags like Auditions for Santa, Regional Carols, and Santa’s Moonlighting Jobs; relish the inspired send-ups of Martha Stewart and Moulin Rouge; and just sit back and enjoy the original music of songs like “A Work in Progress,” “Papa Comes Back Home,” and “A Christmas Reunion.” This rollicking comedy treat provides plenty of rich treasures in an evening of sparkling words and music delivered by a brilliant cast.

Déjà Vu Xmas: Eight Beautiful Reindeer and One Ugly One

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RE: BOB De DEA’S DÉJÀ VU XMAS at CRÊPE DE PARIS CABARET

Have you tired of Ebenezer Scrooge’s late night conversion? Do Snow Flakes dance in your head long after the last bows of The Nutcracker? If so, we invite you to attend Seattle’s newest contribution to the holiday entertainment season, Bob De Dea’s Déjà Vu Xmas is the holiday offering at the Crêpe de Paris Cabaret in Rainier Square. It is an original, somewhat irreverent and very funny look at the holiday experience that we have come to know and love. An extremely talented cast of five will perform songs and sketches that poke fun at some of our most time-honored traditions.

The show includes outrageous running gags such as Auditions for Santa, Regional Carols (you haven’t heard these before) and Santa’s Moonlighting Jobs. The show skewers such pop culture icons as Martha Stewart and the movie “Moulin Rouge.” It also includes original songs such as A Work in Progress, Papa Comes Back Home, and We’ve Been Here Before.

The music and lyrics have been composed and/or rewritten by Bob De Dea and will be performed by Bobbi Kotula, Angie Louise, Carolyn Magoon, Jason Collins, and Mr. De Dea. The cast has a wealth of musical theater credits ranging from cabaret to appearances at the 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, and Civic Light Opera.

Mr. De Dea, in addition to writing the show and appearing in it, is also producing the piece and has hopes that it will become as much a part of Seattle’s holiday traditions as the earlier mentioned productions. Bob has been an active member of Seattle’s theatre community for many years. His credits as a writer and composer include My Fourth Divorce, the one-man musical Ya Got Trouble! An Affair with Robert Preston, and the novel Something Worn. He has directed at several area theatres including such productions as I Do! I Do!, Greater Tuna, An Inspector Calls, and Frankie and Johnnie in the Clair de Lune. For the past sixteen years he has been the tenor and arranger for his own a cappella vocal group, Kitchen Sync, and he has contributed songs for several musical reviews around town. His off-kilter sense of humor and extensive knowledge of popular music is well represented in Déjà Vu Xmas.

The show is being produced at the intimate and lovely Crêpe de Paris in Rainier Square, where its holiday predecessor, Forbidden Xmas, had a long run. This show promises to deliver more of the same hilarity, while not overlooking the true spirit of the season.

The show runs from November 26 through December 30 with performances every night in December except Mondays and Christmas day. Dinner seating begins at 6:30 and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling the Crêpe de Paris at 206-623-4111. Group Rates are available.
