Seattle Turns out for Candidates

author:

Over a very active political weekend in Seattle, protestors came out as expected to unwelcome President Bush to the Northwest. Meanwhile Dean supporters came out in record numbers to support the Democratic hopeful.

The call for impeachment of President Bush for lying about the reasons to go to War in the State of the Union has people literally marching in the streets to demand President Bush's immediate impeachment. In stark contrast to the impeachment of President Clinton for lying about an affair, where it seemed only a handful of Republicans and Moonies really cared.

The McCain-Feingold act, touted by its supporters as taking big money out of campaigns, has helped GW surpass all previous campaign war chests by raising the personal limit to $2000, thereby increasing the influence of the wealthy on political campaigns, and he wasted no time in Washington State proving it. Trying hard not to be outfought for pulling in the dough, Howard Dean swept through town this weekend in an attempt to go head-to-head with Bush's fundraising machine by travelling to 8 cities in 4 days. Aprroximately 15,000 people packed Westlake to hear him speak.

While progressives are worried that Dean may only be American Empire lite, can anyone really say that actually having the worse of the two evils isn't a whole lot worse? With less than a year before the primaries start, no 3rd party candidate has emerged to challenge the two-party duopoly.
