It Is Time To Honor Filipino WWII Veterans

Seattle Filipino Veterans struggle for Equity-AJLPP On May 6, 1942, after enduring one month of siege, air and artillery bombardment by the Japanese, the island fortress of Corregidor surrendered to the Japanese Imperial Army. For the next three years, Filipino guerillas led by able Filipino leaders or by American officers never let the Japanese have peace of mind in occupying the Philippines. They held the line and even liberated areas even before American forces landed in the Philippines. For the next three years, Filipino guerillas led by able Filipino leaders or by American officers never let the Japanese have peace of mind in occupying the Philippines. They held the line and even liberated areas even before American forces landed in the Philippines.

Sixty-six years later, these Filipino veterans have not been fully compensated or treated as American veterans. It is time that they are honored for the service they rendered.

Report Back From Olympia Mayday March

May Day -- In Olympia there was a march that followed a rally in Sylvester Park. During the rally people spoke about the plight of immigrant workers and the raids by ICE carried out in our communities. The hip-hop group Sound Asylum performed a short set and then the crowd marched up Capitol Blvd towards the Washington State Capitol Building.

When the march reached the Capitol, people flooded inside. Some people threw up tags on the marble walls and others chanted in front of the Governor's office. Afterward, people listened to speakers on the Capitol steps. The outline of a large circle (A) was still visible on the Roman columns above the speakers.

Report Back/Much Needed Venting from TacomaSmashICE Demonstration

I think that I can do this now. I guess I get a little acute PTSD the day after, every time. Its strange, now that I think of it. I have never been in a situation where there are riot or bike cops at hand that has not turned violent. It is the cops that start it, every time. Every time too, I feel the same. It's a sick feeling, a feeling of desperation and hopelessness. They are like the Nothing from the Neverending Story. Maybe they are what the Nothing is...and the Nothing is everywhere and most people on this planet are faced with it every goddamn day of their lives and we are the lucky ones that have the “choice” of confronting it. The thing about the Nothing is that it will catch up to you, even if it hasn't taken everything yet and you only hear stories of it happening far away to “other” people. The Nothing always has been. The Nothing is unstoppable. Or is it?

Police Repression In Tacoma: A Recounting from an Anarchist

Hello Friends,

For the second time, people in Tacoma attempted to spread awareness not about something abstract but something very real. Something which exists at the bottom of the steep Tacoma hills. Something which, once seen by the eyes, is unforgettable. For the second time, we were met with blunt, crude repression. No one was out there to smash anything up. We were out there to let people know that this something, the Northwest Detention Center, did in fact exist.

Report Back from the Tacoma Smash ICE Demonstration

Tacoma Smash ICE and others marched Saturday as part of the Week of Action against ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) and the Northwest Detention Center. The purpose of the march was to bring attention to the existence of the ICE Detention Center, an immigrant detention center on the tide flats of Tacoma housing 1000 immigrants. It was a spirited march, despite the presence of cops on bicycles and a plastic-shielded riot squad who sought to keep everyone on the sidewalk, no matter what.
